To the first page of Steve's old truck story: About a year or so later I came home and removed the Flathead and took it to Arizona and rebuilt it. Then about 6 months later I came home and got the truck and towed it to AZ. About ready for the trip. I had to borrow the Chevy from a friend. What a trip. On the way to Oregon, I had to replace the leaf spring centering bolt in Reno. It flooded out in Grants Pass, (carburetor problems) and when when changing the plugs I found the water pump bad. So I bought a new one and put it into the bed just in case. I made it about 16 miles outside of Grants Pass when the water pump went out, so I changed it along side the freeway. I fought the quadrajet carburetor problem the rest of the trip, but she did well towing the old truck. Arrived in AZ. The completed engine. The red carburetor and yellow generator have been replaced! it don't look as pretty now. Starting the disassembly. I started with a handful of tools, Makita 4" disc grinder and a wire wheel. You can get a lot done with that! Front end sprayed with a airless sprayer. It turned out ok, but I don't recommend it. Engine and axle in place, but the axle hasn't been worked on yet. |
