This page is REALLY under Construction!!

69-364.jpg (95165 bytes)This was my jet, 69-364, before I arrived at the base. It had slid off the runway due to a nose wheel steering failure. It had done this act before, and after this time the jet's name was "Mudslide" It was repaired and flew until it was taken into a flat spin and crashed.

Look here... Could have this been the incident?

Nothing like a burner run at night

mock migs.JPG (61174 bytes)The F-5 Aggressors. We hated the week the pilots loved this week. The Friday before we had to drop all the fuel tanks. Then the missions would only be 1/2 hour long or so with an occasional "over G" thrown in for fun. Then the next Friday would start the uploading of the fuel tanks to resume normal operations.

ZWEI300TA.JPG (55961 bytes)This is a picture of Zweibrucken's "300" parking area's. The Transient alert and AR shop hangers was the big hanger at the right of the picture at the bottom of the large ramp. Home of the crew-chief feeding place "Beans and Weenies", several cheap food vending machines.  There are two F-4's landing on the runway, and one on the taxiway to the left. The spot above and to the right of the Heli-pads (between the runway and taxiway) was the "trim pad" where we would do After Burner (AB) runs in the jets.  Bunny rabbits can fly very far when trying to run through the jet blast at full AB. There was a "hush house" in the 400 area, but it was very difficult to place the jet on it. It injected water into the AB flame so on the few occasions we did use there would be a huge steam cloud at the far end of the base.

Here is another picture of the base.
